Additionally, topics such as respiratory system physiology, digestive physiology, circulatory physiology, excretory system physiology, endocrine system, and reproductive system physiology are also addressed. Throughout the course, theoretical knowledge is reinforced with case studies and discussions to develop students' analytical thinking and clinical problem-solving skills. Mid-term and final exams are intended to help students assess their learning and identify areas for improvement.

This course aims to provide fundamental theoretical knowledge related to fixed and complete dentures and to reinforce it through preclinical laboratory practices. In the fall semester, topics include the planning of fixed prosthodontic restorations, pre-prosthetic preparations, post-core applications, impression taking, try-in, and cementation, as well as the properties of the materials used in these preclinical procedures. In the spring semester, the course covers the comprehensive evaluation of completely edentulous patients, the fabrication stages of complete dentures, jaw relationships, occlusion, complication management, and special types of complete dentures (immediate dentures, overdentures, and single complete dentures).

Additionally, the interaction of materials with the oral environment and the principles of biocompatibility are also covered.

This course covers the fundamental principles of infection control in dental practice. Topics such as cross-infection, the chain of infection, and transmission routes are addressed, along with sterilization and disinfection methods, personal protective measures, and environmental cleanliness. Special approaches to infection control in oral surgery, implantology, endodontics, prosthodontics, and orthodontics are emphasized. In addition, infection control in dental radiology, medical waste management, and the importance of vaccination are highlighted, providing students with the knowledge and skills necessary to ensure a safe clinical environment.

The Geriatrics course covers the factors affecting oral and dental health in older adults, oral changes related to the aging process, and preventive and therapeutic approaches for these patients. The course covers the effects of polypharmacy, multiple morbidity, and systemic diseases on oral health, as well as common problems such as denture use, root caries, periodontal disease, and xerostomia. A multidisciplinary approach is also adopted, focusing on appropriate treatment planning for geriatric patients, patient-physician communication, and radiological assessment methods.

In the spring semester, laboratory procedures such as model analysis, oral preparation, impression taking, framework try-in, jaw relationship registration, tooth arrangement, denture try-in stages, and management of potential complications are addressed. The course also provides an introduction to advanced applications such as precision attachment dentures, interim dentures, and repair procedures.

Within the scope of this course, the fundamental mechanisms of pathological processes will be examined in detail. Initially, emphasis will be placed on cellular injury, cellular adaptation mechanisms, and cell death processes (necrosis and apoptosis). Fluid-electrolyte balance and the pathogenesis of edema will be explored in depth, and in this context, hemodynamic disorders and their systemic effects will be evaluated. The pathophysiology of nutritional disorders and their effects on metabolic processes will also be addressed. In relation to the immune system’s role in disease, mechanisms of inflammation, amyloidosis, connective tissue diseases, and immunopathological processes will be discussed in detail. Wound healing will be analyzed from both biological and clinical perspectives, with a focus on tissue regeneration and repair processes. Mechanisms of carcinogenesis and the concept of neoplasia will be presented, providing fundamental knowledge of tumor biology and oncological processes. With respect to oral and maxillofacial pathology, pulpal and periodontal diseases, odontogenic and non-odontogenic cysts and tumors, salivary gland pathologies, stomatitis, and white lesions of the oral mucosa will be addressed in detail. Current diagnostic and prognostic approaches to premalignant lesions and oral cancers will be emphasized. The etiopathogenesis, clinical characteristics, and differential diagnosis of pigmented lesions and vesiculobullous diseases will also be discussed.

In the fall semester, topics include the masticatory system, mandibular movements, principles of articulation, and occlusal balance. In the spring semester, the course introduces oral implantology, focusing on the planning, implementation, and management of prosthetic complications in fixed and removable implant-supported prostheses. Throughout the course, students develop skills in evaluating patient data, making diagnoses, formulating treatment plans, and performing clinical applications through direct clinical observation and practice.

Radiographic evaluation methods and radiological lesions in the oral, dental, and maxillofacial region will be examined, along with inflammatory diseases, cysts, and tumors of the jawbones and their radiological characteristics. The course will also cover bone diseases, manifestations of systemic diseases in the jaws, and both clinical and radiological evaluations of temporomandibular joint and paranasal sinus disorders. Additionally, soft tissue calcifications, developmental anomalies, salivary gland radiology, and orofacial pain will be addressed. Advanced imaging techniques (Cone Beam CT, CT, MRI, ultrasonography), implant radiology, and dental approaches for special patient groups are also included in the scope of the course.
