Course Objective

Brief Content of the Course

The aim is to introduce the role of digital technologies in the energy sector and to provide students with an understanding of how data collection, monitoring, analysis, and control processes are shaped by digital transformation. The goal is to equip students with fundamental knowledge and awareness about integrating technologies such as smart energy systems, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and automation into energy systems.

The fundamental concepts of digitalization in the energy sector and the digital transformation process will be discussed. Smart grids and smart meter technologies will be introduced, and their contributions to energy management will be examined. Students will learn how data collection, monitoring, and analysis systems operate in energy production, transmission, and consumption processes. How communication between devices in energy systems is achieved through Internet of Things (IoT) applications and how these systems are used in the field will be detailed. Furthermore, the concept of big data and how this data is evaluated in energy systems will be explained, along with data mining and forecasting methods. The contributions of digital technologies to energy efficiency will be discussed through artificial intelligence-based decision support systems and optimization applications. Additionally, automation systems, remote monitoring and control technologies, and the process of digitalizing energy infrastructures will be discussed. Digital twin technology and virtual energy systems will be conceptually examined. The course will also cover cybersecurity and data integrity, providing fundamental information about the security of digital energy systems. Finally, the impact of digitalization on sustainability and energy efficiency will be evaluated and illustrated through current application examples.
